What made you start MegsCouture.com?

The idea of MegsCouture.com hit the scratch paper at the end of 2008 and has now turned into what you see here. I moved out to the East Coast from the MidWest to dip my feet into one of the fashion capitals of the world right after graduating College. Instead of finding a job I decided to explore the little girls clothing industry for the first time by creating MegsCouture.com along with becoming involved with a great fashion blog on DIYStyle.net. The plan was to own my own line someday. Not necessarily a kids line or to do it right now but it was a great time to do it and the opportunity presented itself. Coming from a family of great creativity, I also asked my mother Dar to take part in MegsCouture.com. Dar designs and makes jewelry and paper products, such as cards and albums, in her spare time. She is a Nurse by day and a talented crafter by some nights and weekends. Dar started her own business titled No2ofaKind selling more adult based jewelry and paper goods. Now gearing towards a younger crowd, she is online at MegsCtoure.com!

What's your background in Design?

I studied Merchandising along with Fashion Design & Product Management dabling also in a bit of Graphic & Web Design. Pair that with winning several Fashion awards over the last couple of years and also having experience in Womens Knits, Men's Tailoring, Women's tailoring, Formal Wear, and Sportswear and you have my Design background in more ways than one. Obviously now I am gaining experience in Children's Wear and web design!

How's MegsCouture.com "Eco Conscious"?

One of our main missions as a business is to be conscious of the environment. This means taking care in every way our resources allow to cut down on waste and pollution. I would love to someday have what I could call a totally Eco Conscious Company by selling organic clothing and totally recycled paper products but in our current budget that is outside our rhelm. We do take steps in recycling and reuseing. We Ship our products in previously used boxes that we have simply turned inside out (check the inside of your next package), using biodegradable corn based packageing for garments and cards, and recycling office plastic and paper waist are just the start of what we do. We save all scraps from the cutting process of garments and use them for other products such as our bedding and room decor that is soon to come. We also incorporate repurposing into our own label of stuffed animals,"SweaterBabies", by making them from previously used sweaters. Used file folders are saved from the trash and made into the cute little paper purses that our Jewelry is shipped in. Like I was saying, we try to be very creative in the ways that we run MegsCouture.com. The MegsCouture.com blog also has the purpose of being informative on creative ways to do projects for yourself and to participate in the practice of being Eco Conscious your self!

What can we see in MegsCouture.com's future?

We plan on putting out four seasons a year of all our products. We also want to add on more catagories such as infant clothing, screen print T's, room decor such as bedding, curtains, pillows, wall clings, canvas pictures and more. If you have any suggestions or certain requests then send a shout out. I'm sure we'll think it's a good idea too! For the very near future we hope to get published in one magazine with in our first year.

What do you like to do other than MegsCouture.com?

Other than designing and being artsy, I also enjoy the great outdoors along with being environmentally conscious, reading comic books (thanks to my boyfriends influence) along with anything about the Beales of Grey Gardens, vacuming the dog so that I don't have to vacum the floor, and cooking and eating.

I hope that you greatly enjoy MegsCouture.com!
